JLP General Secretary pays tribute to late Cabinet Minister Dean Peart

Jamaica Labour Party General Secretary Horace Chang has lauded the late Dean Peart, a former Cabinet Minister, describing him as a politician of the highest caliber who embodied decency, decorum, and integrity. Chang's condolences were extended to Peart's family on Sunday, following the politician's passing.

Dean Peart was committed to Jamaica and its development. He was generally honest in his remarks on issues of national importance. However, though he was robust when he thought it necessary in his submissions to Parliament, Mr Peart never resorted to being indecent or disrespectful. His conduct in Parliament and the political arena, in general, was of the highest calibre. We will miss his contributions to national discourse.

Chang also emphasized Peart's willingness to collaborate with stakeholders for the national interest, despite belonging to the opposing People's National Party. "Dean was of an era where there was a general understanding that disagreement was inevitable, but it was never an excuse for insolence," Chang recalled. "He was strident in defending causes in which he believed. He was a competent servant of the people."

Peart, who was 77 years old, died on Sunday after a reported illness. The Jamaica Labour Party extended its deepest condolences to his family, including his wife and children, and his brother Michael, who also served as Speaker of the House. Chang remarked that Peart hailed from a family dedicated to public service, and his contributions would not be forgotten.
