Jódar comes back to defeat Moutet in Canadian debut, faces Musetti next

Rafael Jódar marked his Canadian Masters 1000 debut with a hard-fought victory over France's Corentin Moutet. The Spanish world number 15 battled back from losing the first set to win 4-6, 6-1, 6-3 in two hours and 17 minutes.

Jódar's win came just 48 hours after he lost the Washington Open final to Taylor Fritz. In Montreal, Moutet initially took the lead, breaking Jódar's serve in the fifth game and starting the second set with another break. However, Jódar responded decisively, securing three consecutive breaks to level the match and force a deciding third set.

The final set saw an exchange of breaks before Jódar seized control, breaking Moutet's serve twice more to clinch his place in the next round. He converted six of his seven break point opportunities while saving five of the eight he faced.

Jódar is now set to play Italy's Lorenzo Musetti in the third round. Notably, Jódar also came from behind to defeat Musetti in the quarterfinals in Washington the previous week, winning that match 1-6, 6-1, 6-4.
