Johor Election: Choose Approachable Candidates Who Serve Best, Says UMNO Chief

Voters in the upcoming Johor state election are urged to select candidates who are not only accessible but also demonstrably capable of delivering excellent service. Datuk Seri Azalina Othman Said, the Information Chief of UMNO, stressed the importance of this approach in choosing political representatives.

Azalina advised voters to assess potential candidates by examining their track records of service within their local areas. She noted that representatives who are frequently absent from their constituencies are less likely to meet the needs of their constituents. "If you choose elected representatives who are not in the constituency and are more often elsewhere, it will be difficult for the people to get the services they need," she stated.

She also expressed a preference for retaining existing candidates who have proven their worth, alongside supporting younger individuals. As the Member of Parliament for Pengerang, Azalina urged members and supporters of Barisan Nasional (BN) component parties in Johor to back the administration led by Menteri Besar Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi.

"As party members, we must be confident that BN can win a two-thirds majority, God willing. Perhaps the confidence differs in Johor compared to Negeri Sembilan. But for Johor, I am very confident," she remarked after officiating the opening of the Legal Aid Department's Satellite Office in Pengerang.
