Johor Menteri Besar Appointment Subject to Sultan's Decree, PH Leader Says

Johor's Pakatan Harapan (PH) leadership has dismissed concerns from Barisan Nasional (BN) Johor regarding potential candidates for Menteri Besar, asserting that the ultimate decision rests with the Sultan of Johor.

Datuk Seri Dr. Zaliha Mustafa, Chairperson of the Johor State Leadership Council, stated that BN Johor Chairman Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi's pressure is an attempt to create political controversy. She emphasized that the appointment of the state's top leader is governed by Johor's constitution.

"PH, including PKR, has many qualified, capable, and integrity-driven leaders who can shoulder the responsibility if given the mandate by the people," Zaliha said, adding that a 'poster boy' candidate does not guarantee the Menteri Besar position. She recalled how Datuk Seri Hasni Mohammad was BN's 'poster boy' in Johor, yet Datuk Onn Hafiz was ultimately appointed.

Zaliha questioned Ghazi's motives, suggesting his demands might be aimed at stirring controversy rather than truly representing the people's rights. She affirmed that PH's current focus is on grassroots engagement to understand and address the public's concerns for the state's future.
