Johor Polls: SPR detects 305 campaign violations

Authorities in Johor have identified a significant number of campaign violations during the ongoing 16th Johor State Election. The State Election Commission (SPR) reported that 305 complaints and reports concerning various breaches by contesting political parties were recorded as of yesterday. The most frequent violation involved the improper placement of campaign materials in areas designated as prohibited by Local Authorities (PBT), accounting for 140 instances. Another substantial category, with 90 violations, related to campaign materials obstructing road users and traffic flow. Additionally, 27 violations were noted for campaign materials found within 50 meters of polling centers, with the remaining 48 falling under miscellaneous offenses. The SPR has confirmed that follow-up actions have been taken on all reports received by the Election Campaign Enforcement Team (PP-KPR). To ensure adherence to election laws, the SPR established 56 PP-KPR units to enforce the Election Offenses Act 1954 throughout the campaign period, which runs until July 10. The SPR is also cooperating with other enforcement bodies, including the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM), the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (SPRM), and the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (SKMM), to maintain control over campaign activities. The SPR urged all candidates and political parties to strictly follow all laws, regulations, codes of ethics, and directives issued by authorities to ensure a smooth and orderly campaign process.
