Join the Traditional Scything Demonstration Event in Žumberak! Rich Program Awaits Visitors

After a multi-year break, the Žumberak Nature Park will once again host a traditional scything demonstration event on Saturday, June 27. The event, starting at 10 a.m. near the Budinjak Visitor Center, aims to revive and showcase the centuries-old practice of manual mowing.

This traditional method was crucial for maintaining grasslands and fostering rich biodiversity in the region. The full-day program will celebrate heritage, natural resources, and sustainable grassland management. Attendees can witness live scything demonstrations, explore an exhibition of traditional tools and Žumberak life, and interact with local family farms.

Organizers emphasize that the event is free to attend and suitable for all ages. Participants can also engage in workshops and educational activities. The initiative is part of the cross-border Interreg SI-HR project CarEx, focused on preserving dry grasslands, which are among Europe's most valuable and threatened habitats. Traditional scything plays a vital role in this conservation effort, supported by the European Regional Development Fund.
