Jokowi Meets 'Militant Gibran' Volunteers; VP Gibran Faces Bribery Allegations

Six middle-aged men, identifying as leaders of the volunteer organization "Militan Gibran Nusantara" (Nusantara Gibran Militant), visited the private residence of Indonesia's seventh president, Joko Widodo, in Solo, Central Java. The men wore jackets bearing the face of Jokowi's eldest son, Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka.

The organization, established on May 20, 2026, in South Jakarta, comprises many former volunteers of Jokowi. Its chair, Andi Azwan, stated that the group's purpose is to support a politician capable of continuing Jokowi's programs from his 2014-2024 presidency, believing Gibran is the right figure for this continuity. Andi also inquired if Jokowi would be willing to serve as the organization's patron, aiming to ensure the "Prabowo Subianto-Gibran partnership lasts for two terms."

During their nearly hour-long discussion with Jokowi, the group outlined their planned regional activities. Andi, a former member of the National Democrat (NasDem) Party, confirmed the organization's formation and its commitment to supporting Gibran.

Meanwhile, Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka has been asked by the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDIP) Central Executive Board Chair Deddy Sitorus to clarify alleged bribery involving Bung Karno University (UBK) student representatives. Anger has erupted among other UBK students who view the alleged payments as a violation of the student movement's integrity. A confession video of a UBK Student Executive Board member accepting bribe money has drawn significant public attention.
