Jonathan Milan wins first stage of Tour of Poland

Italian cyclist Jonathan Milan claimed victory in the opening stage of the Tour of Poland, a week-long WorldTour race. The current Italian road champion, riding for Lidl-Trek, outpaced his rivals in a sprint finish after the 234.2-kilometer stage from Gdynia to Koszalin.

Milan, 25, secured his 34th professional win and his ninth of the current year. The flat stage was ideal for sprinters, with France's Paul Magnier (Soudal Quick-Step) and Britain's Noah Hobbs (EF Eduaction-EasyPost) finishing behind the Italian.

The next two stages are also expected to favor sprinters. However, stages four through six will present challenges for climbers and those vying for the overall victory. The main favorite for the general classification is Portugal's Joao Almeida (UAE Emirates-XRG), who is returning to competition after a two-month break. Almeida previously won the Tour of Poland five years ago.
