Jordanian Army Shoots Down Drone Near Iraq, Saudi Borders

The Jordanian army reported on Tuesday that it successfully shot down an unidentified drone that had breached the kingdom's airspace in the early morning hours. The drone was downed in the eastern desert region, within Jordanian territory, near the borders with Iraq and Saudi Arabia.

Details regarding the drone's origin or affiliation have not been disclosed by the military, which has launched an investigation to determine where the unmanned aircraft was launched from. This event occurs amidst a backdrop of increased regional instability, with Jordan having been a target of attacks in the past. The Jordanian Armed Forces stated they were "dealing with an unmanned aircraft that violated Jordanian airspace."

Meanwhile, the Israeli military also reported intercepting a drone near the Jordanian border on the same day, though they confirmed it did not penetrate Israeli territory. This marks another instance of aerial incursions near the sensitive border region. The Israeli army had reported intercepting two similar craft near the Jordanian border just the day before.

Jordan hosts small units from several countries on its military bases under cooperation and training agreements, but insists it does not host foreign military bases. The country has faced repeated drone incidents, particularly since the resumption of hostilities between the United States and Iran, which has seen Tehran target U.S. interests in the Middle East.
