Jos mob killing: University graduate to be buried Thursday as family demands justice

The family of Ibrahim Mbaya, a graduate of the University of Jos, has announced his burial will take place on Thursday in his hometown in Borno State. Mbaya, 25, was allegedly beaten to death by a mob in Jos, Plateau State. His younger brother, James Mbaya, shared that preparations are underway to bring his body home for the funeral.

We are making arrangements for his corpse to be brought home. He will be buried on Thursday.

James described his brother's death as a devastating loss, particularly for their parents, as Ibrahim was the first child and first male child in the family. He spoke of the great expectations and unachieved dreams, including owning a fashion house and restaurant, that were tragically cut short. The family is deeply disheartened but hopes for justice.

His (Ibrahim) death has really devastated us, especially our parents. I don’t think they are ever going to recover from the shock of his death because he was the first child and the first male child of the family. We had great expectations from him.

The incident occurred on Sunday at an off-campus apartment. Reports indicate that Mbaya, a model, had stayed overnight at a friend's apartment. The following morning, his friend accused him of stealing an iPhone, as they were the only occupants. Although Mbaya initially left, he returned when called back to explain. Upon his return, he was allegedly attacked by a mob.

Everyone involved in his death should get the punishment they deserve, although this won’t bring him back, but it is the best thing that can ever happen to the family after his tragic loss.

The Plateau State Police Command confirmed the incident and stated that three suspects, Rinji Daniel Fwanji, Emmanuel Newyear, and Nensemka Fwanji, have been arrested in connection with the alleged culpable homicide. The family is urging the police to ensure that all individuals involved in Mbaya's brutal and inhumane death face punishment, emphasizing that while it won't bring him back, it is the only form of justice they can hope for after such a tragic loss.

The manner in which he died was very brutal and inhumane. Nobody should have gone through such inhumane treatment. I can never wish my enemy to be treated that way by those animals. Nobody should die such a brutal death. It is quite terrible and horrifying.
