Jose Mourinho returns to Real Madrid as head coach on contract until 2029

Spanish football giant Real Madrid has officially confirmed the appointment of Portuguese coach Jose Mourinho as their new head coach. Mourinho has signed a contract with the club that runs until June 30, 2029, marking his return to the Santiago Bernabéu.

This marks Mourinho's second spell in charge of the 15-time European champions, having previously managed the team between 2010 and 2013. During his first tenure, he led Real Madrid to a Copa del Rey title and a La Liga championship. The 63-year-old Mourinho will officially begin his duties in Madrid on July 13.

Mourinho's return comes after Real Madrid's exit from the Champions League quarterfinals and a second-place finish in the domestic league behind Barcelona. He succeeds Alvaro Arbeloa in the coaching role. Mourinho brings a wealth of experience from his extensive coaching career, having managed clubs such as Benfica, Porto (where he won the Champions League in 2003), Chelsea, Inter Milan (leading them to a Champions League title), Manchester United, Tottenham, Roma, and Fenerbahçe.

This new challenge in Madrid represents another significant opportunity for the highly decorated Portuguese manager, who is tasked with leading Real Madrid forward after a season that fell short of expectations in key competitions.
