Journalists' Association Condemns Threats Against Serbian Portal, Demands Action

The Independent Association of Journalists of Serbia (UNS) has strongly condemned the threats directed at the "Volim Zrenjanin" online portal and its editor, Aleksandar Blanuša. UNS is demanding an immediate and thorough investigation by Serbian authorities to find and hold accountable those responsible for the menacing messages. The threats, which included a chilling "only a bullet" comment and a direct physical threat to the editor, have raised serious safety concerns for Blanuša, his family, and the portal's staff. The "Volim Zrenjanin" editorial team has reported the incidents to the prosecution and police, providing recordings and available data. UNS emphasized the gravity of the situation, reminding that threats against individuals performing public information roles carry a potential prison sentence of six months to five years under the Criminal Code. This incident underscores the persistent challenges faced by journalists in Serbia and the urgent need for effective protection against intimidation and violence.
