Judge grants house arrest for Tatiana Marset, sister of alleged drug trafficker

A judge in Villa Primero de Mayo has granted house arrest to Tatiana Marset Alba, the sister of alleged Uruguayan drug trafficker Sebastián Enrique Marset. Marset had been held in preventive detention at the Palmasola prison since March.

The decision came after a hearing on a request for the cessation of preventive detention filed by Marset's defense. The judge determined that the procedural risks associated with the accused were no longer present. Consequently, Marset is to leave the prison and adhere to at least eight substitute measures.

These measures include reporting to the Public Ministry weekly, avoiding contact with witnesses and the crime scene, and refraining from threatening or harassing witnesses through any means. Additionally, she must provide two personal guarantors with proven solvency, remain within the country, and observe a nightly curfew from 8:00 PM to 6:00 AM under police escort. The judge granted 10 days to comply with these measures, after which a release order will be issued.

Following the ruling, both the Public Ministry and the Ministry of Government appealed the decision. Marset's defense also appealed, deeming the imposed measures excessive. Tatiana Marset was apprehended on March 13, 2026, during a large-scale police operation, supported by DEA agents, which led to the capture of Sebastián Marset. She was accused of arms trafficking and criminal association, among other charges, and was initially sent to Palmasola for six months. Investigative sources suggest Tatiana played an operational role in her brother's criminal structure, focusing on surveillance and logistical support, though she denies these accusations, stating her presence in Bolivia was for a vacation.
