Judge Secures S/1,715 Monthly Pension for 94-Year-Old Bedridden Mother from Eight Children

A judge in Arequipa, Peru, has facilitated a crucial agreement ensuring a 94-year-old bedridden woman receives financial support from her eight children. Judge Yenny Condori Fernández of the Paucarpata Mixed Provisional District Court brokered a deal for the siblings to collectively pay a monthly pension of S/1,715 to their mother, Josefina S. T.

The substantial sum is designated to cover the elderly woman's fundamental needs, including food, medical care, and continuous assistance. The court's intervention highlights a commitment to upholding the rights and dignity of vulnerable seniors, ensuring they receive the support they require in their advanced years and delicate health conditions.

In an exceptional measure to guarantee access to justice and protect Josefina's health, Judge Condori personally traveled to the plaintiff's home in the Characato district. This decision bypassed the need for the frail woman to travel to the courthouse, acknowledging her high degree of vulnerability. From her residence, the judge conducted the virtual judicial conciliation hearing, which led to the agreement among the eight children.
