Judge visits 94-year-old woman at home to secure alimony pension

In Arequipa, Peru, a 94-year-old woman confined to her bed has successfully obtained a monthly alimony pension of S/1,715. The crucial legal action was facilitated by a judge who traveled to the elderly woman's residence. This exceptional measure ensured the woman, identified as Josefina S. T., could participate in the legal process without compromising her delicate health.

The hearing, conducted by Judge Yenny Condori, took place in the woman's home in the Characato district of Arequipa. The judge utilized a virtual connection to include all involved parties, demonstrating a commitment to accessibility for vulnerable individuals. The court's intervention aimed to guarantee the woman's right to justice, recognizing the difficulties she faced in traveling to a judicial office.

Following a conciliation hearing, all eight of Josefina's children agreed to provide the pension. The funds are earmarked for her food, medical expenses, and ongoing care. One son, who already assists with her daily needs, has been granted power of attorney to manage the pension payments. This arrangement ensures the money directly supports her well-being and comprehensive attention.
