Julián Álvarez's future uncertain as transfer window nears close

Argentine forward Julián Álvarez finds himself at a crossroads as the transfer window rapidly approaches its closure, with his future hanging in the balance between staying at Atlético Madrid or pursuing a move to Arsenal. With just four days remaining until the deadline in Spain and England, Álvarez, who has resumed individual training following a recent indisposition, awaits a definitive decision.

Atlético Madrid's CEO, Miguel Ángel Gil Marín, has reiterated that the club will not sell Álvarez to Barcelona, emphasizing unanimous board support for this stance. However, Marín acknowledged that if Álvarez concludes that remaining in Madrid is incompatible with his career goals, the club would consider alternative options, explicitly ruling out a transfer to Barcelona.

Álvarez missed training sessions on Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday due to an indisposition reported by the club. He returned to individual training on Friday afternoon with a physical trainer to regain match fitness. The player had previously re-entered competition last Sunday against Villarreal, playing 33 minutes, during which he was met with jeers from the crowd both during warm-ups and upon entering the field.

Atlético manager Diego Simeone confirmed Álvarez's absence from the upcoming match against Sevilla due to his recent training schedule. Simeone, however, stated that he counts on the player for the current season and expressed confidence in reversing the current situation. "From the moment Julián returns to training with us, we will give him everything we always have to make him feel important, as he is to our team," Simeone explained.
