Julio Lagos appears at Radio Rivadavia but remains off-air pending contract cancellation

Julio Lagos made an appearance at Radio Rivadavia's headquarters four days after news broke of his separation from the station, but he did not broadcast. Lagos explained through an Instagram video that he went to the AM 630 station because the formal termination of his contract had not yet been processed. "Today, Saturday the 8th, I will not be on the air," Lagos announced in the reel shared with his followers. He clarified that he attended the radio station because the company had not yet finalized the cancellation of their agreement. "Thank you to the listeners for so much loyalty," he concluded, also using the hashtag "65 years of work" to reference his long media career. Until this week, the journalist and announcer hosted "La radio sos vos" on Saturdays from 5 PM to 10 PM. Lagos had confirmed to LA NACION earlier that the station decided to cancel the program as part of a cost-reduction process by Alpha Media, the owner of Rivadavia. The decision did not surprise him, as he had been anticipating economic difficulties in the industry. Lagos described "La radio sos vos" as the best program of his extensive career and expressed gratitude for the opportunity. However, he offered a critical perspective on the broader media landscape, suggesting that radio has shifted from a traditional model based on audience and advertising to one increasingly reliant on political income. When this funding diminishes, he explained, financial problems arise, leading to adjustments, voluntary retirements, and dismissals. Lagos's departure followed closely on the heels of Oscar "El Cholo" Gómez Castañón's, whose program "Desde el alma" was also canceled. These changes are part of a larger restructuring by Alpha Media across its various signals. The AM 630 schedule has been reconfigured, with "La oral deportiva" moved earlier and a new evening news program, "Panorama al cierre del Rotativo del aire," added.
