Justice minister says alimony reforms are planned for October

Justice Minister Akın Gürlek said Turkey plans to introduce legal changes on indefinite alimony as part of a package in October. Gürlek portrayed Turkey’s judicial system as having endured major disruption through the FETÖ structure and said it had since been rebuilt into an independent, citizen-focused system. He said the international legal order was facing a historic test. According to Gürlek, the double standards shown by many Western countries during severe human-rights crises had seriously weakened confidence in international law. He said proposals submitted to the Justice Ministry would be welcome if they centered on law, justice and the public interest.
