Justice Minister: Two child deaths in Turkey ruled murders

Turkey's Justice Minister, Akın Gürlek, revealed that two child deaths, initially investigated as suicides or accidents, have been reclassified as murders following thorough investigations. The announcement brings closure to cases that had raised public concern. In Van, the death of 14-year-old Damlanur Sarihan, initially believed to be a suicide, is now being treated as a homicide. Seven suspects have been detained in connection with the case. Evidence cited includes witness testimonies, contradictory statements from family members, gunshot residue found on a suspect, and analysis of communication records. The investigation expanded to include charges of intentional homicide. Meanwhile, in Afyonkarahisar, the death of 4-year-old Yunus Emre Yakar, initially thought to be a fall from a height, has been determined to be a result of assault. The investigation revealed attempts to conceal evidence and misrepresent the cause of death. The child's stepfather has been arrested on charges of intentional homicide and abuse, while his great-grandfather faces charges related to negligent homicide and concealing evidence. The minister emphasized the commitment to uncovering the truth in unsolved crimes, highlighting inter-agency cooperation.
