Justin Hubner's own goal can't stop Fortuna Sittard's 3-2 victory over Groningen

Fortuna Sittard secured a hard-fought 3-2 victory against hosts Groningen in their Eredivisie clash at the Euroborg Stadium. The win marked a positive response for Fortuna Sittard after a previous defeat, lifting them to fifth place in the temporary standings with seven points.

The match saw Fortuna Sittard take an early lead in the 12th minute through Mohammed Ihattaren's accurate strike following a counter-attack. However, Groningen equalized seven minutes later with a goal from David van der Werff. Fortuna Sittard regained the lead in the 28th minute when Lequincio Zeefuik converted a through pass, ending the first half with a 2-1 advantage.

In the second half, Fortuna Sittard extended their lead to 3-1 in the 72nd minute courtesy of Anthony Descotte. Despite playing a full 90 minutes and contributing to his team's defense, Indonesian national team player Justin Hubner inadvertently scored an own goal in the 87th minute. His header, intended to clear a high ball in the penalty area, unfortunately went into his own net, reducing Groningen's deficit to 3-2.

Despite the late own goal, Fortuna Sittard managed to hold on to their lead, with no further goals scored before the final whistle. Hubner's costly error did not prevent his team from securing the crucial three points away from home.
