K-pop powerhouse BTS say they will not submit music for 2027 Grammys

Global music sensation BTS has declared they will not be submitting their music for consideration at the upcoming 2027 Grammy Awards. The announcement was made simultaneously by all seven members, RM, Suga, j-hope, Jimin, V, Jung Kook, and Jin, in a coordinated message shared on Wednesday. The group expressed a desire for their music to be appreciated for its intrinsic quality, rather than being segmented by geographical region or language. They also extended their gratitude to their dedicated fanbase, known as "Army," and all their supporters.

This decision arrives just over a month after the Recording Academy unveiled five new Grammy categories, including a "best Asian pop music performance" category intended to recognize releases from across K-pop, J-pop, C-pop, and other Asian music genres. However, the introduction of this new category has been met with mixed reactions from fans, with some viewing it as a potentially racialized barrier that could unfairly categorize and isolate Asian performers.

BTS has a history of Grammy nominations, having received five nods in the past.
