Kaczyński and Morawiecki to meet again amid PiS internal dispute

Jarosław Kaczyński, the leader of Poland's ruling Law and Justice (PiS) party, is scheduled to meet with former Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki on Thursday at the party's headquarters. This meeting follows a previous encounter that failed to resolve a growing internal dispute over party unity and member affiliations.

Tomorrow at 12:00 p.m. at the PiS headquarters at ul. Nowogrodzka, a meeting will take place between Mr. Prime Minister Jarosław Kaczyński – the president of PiS and Mr. Vice-President Mateusz Morawiecki.

The core of the conflict lies in a recent PiS resolution that mandates party members to leave associations perceived as engaging in political activities within the party structure. This directive, issued under threat of expulsion, specifically targets associations like Morawiecki's "Rozwój Plus" and another led by MP Jacek Sasin. While Sasin's association immediately ceased operations, Morawiecki has expressed his intention to remain with PiS and continue developing his own group, emphasizing his desire for an "ambitious Poland."

Members of Morawiecki's association have penned a letter to Kaczyński, stressing their commitment to party unity and the goal of reconnecting with voters who have drifted away from PiS in recent years. The letter, signed by 45 PiS politicians including MPs, senators, and MEPs, underscores a desire for reconciliation within the party.

Despite these efforts, PiS spokesperson Rafał Bochenek has described the situation as a "split" and reiterated that the ultimatum stands: members must choose between their associations and the party by the end of Thursday, July 23. Bochenek has also labeled Morawiecki's "Rozwój Plus" as engaging in "divisive activity."

Morawiecki, in response, posted on social media, asserting that the "United Right" governments and the collaboration within PiS have transformed Poland. He called for a path of "agreement, ambition, solidarity, and development," adding in a video message that he would not allow eight years of "great change" to be reduced to "personal vendettas and internal ambitions."
