Kaczyński’s “Awakening”: PiS Unveils New Program and Warns of the End of a Sovereign State

Jarosław Kaczyński presented Law and Justice’s new program under the title “Awakening,” a name he said referred to mobilization rather than sleep. He argued that the party needed to take on Poland’s most important challenges.

“These elections are not ordinary elections,” Kaczyński said. In his view, developments over nearly three years had endangered Poland as a sovereign state and could eventually be judged as a very dark period in the country’s history.

Kaczyński said Poland was close to reaching Western European standards, but claimed that not everyone welcomed that prospect. He framed the contest as a struggle over the country’s future, which he said could be good, or could instead be described as the twilight of hope and even the end of the sovereign Polish state.
