Kaduna State Governor Vows Universal Basic Education Access

Governor Uba Sani of Kaduna State has declared his administration's unwavering commitment to providing universal access to basic education for all school-aged children in the state. This initiative aims to ensure that education is treated as a fundamental right, not a privilege, for every child.

Mubarak Mohammed, Executive Chairman of the Kaduna State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), represented the governor at an event in Sheikh Abubakar Gumi Market. He stated that basic education is free and accessible to all, emphasizing that children of school age roaming the streets during school hours are committing an offense. Mohammed highlighted the significant progress made under Governor Sani, noting that over 360,000 children have been returned to school, substantially reducing the previous figure of over 500,000 out-of-school children in Northern Nigeria.

Education is a right in Kaduna State under our administration. Basic education is free and it is not a privilege. So, it is an offence for children of school age to roam the streets during school hours.

SUBEB has undertaken substantial infrastructure development, constructing over 2,000 new classrooms to accommodate the growing number of pupils. To further promote enrollment, the board launched the 2026/2027 School Enrollment Campaign. This initiative involved government officials, education stakeholders, and board staff in a road walk to raise public awareness about the critical importance of basic education.

During the campaign event, five children presented themselves for enrollment, and the Executive Chairman promptly directed officials to ensure their admission into primary school. The campaign underscores the administration's dedication to educational equity and its belief that education serves as the primary tool for social mobility, enabling children from disadvantaged backgrounds to achieve success.
