Kakao Bank Union Joins Picket as Labor Disputes Widen Within Kakao Group

Kakao's labor union is set to stage an in-house picket protest today, escalating labor disputes within the tech giant. The Kakao Bank union will also join the demonstration, following a breakdown in wage negotiations that led to a suspension of mediation by the labor committee. The Kakao union's protest, organized by the Korean Chemical, Fiber and Food Workers' Union Kakao Branch, will occur during lunchtime at the Kakao office in Pangyo. The picket is designed as a voluntary participation event for union members, with no additional rallies or marches planned. The lunchtime timing is expected to minimize disruption to work and core services like KakaoTalk. The Kakao Bank union's involvement stems from a failure to find common ground with management on wage increases, prompting the labor committee to halt mediation proceedings after a recent meeting failed to bridge the gap between the parties.
