Kano Commissioner Honored for Crisis Communication Excellence

Kano State Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs, Comrade Ibrahim Abdullahi Waiya, has been honored with the Outstanding Crisis Communicator award at the 2026 National Spokespersons Awards in Abuja. The recognition celebrates his significant contributions to crisis communication, effective information management, and the dissemination of government policies and programs within Kano State.

During the ceremony at Nicon Luxury Hotel, Abuja, Prof. Sule Ya’u Sule, Chairman of Image Merchants Promotions Limited (IMPR) and an organizing partner, highlighted Waiya's rigorous selection process. He noted Waiya's commitment to timely, accurate, and responsible communication, particularly during periods of public uncertainty and crisis. Prof. Sule emphasized that such recognition underscores the vital role of effective communication in fostering public confidence in government.

The recognition highlights the critical role of effective crisis communication in promoting public understanding, strengthening government-citizens relations and building confidence and trust in government policies and programmes.

Upon receiving the award, Commissioner Waiya expressed his gratitude to the organizers, viewing the honor as an encouragement to further strengthen communication channels between the government and citizens. He dedicated the award to Kano State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, the dedicated staff of the ministry, and the media community in Kano State for their unwavering support and commitment to fostering effective public communication.

Waiya stressed the essential nature of disseminating accurate and credible information promptly, especially during crises and public concern, stating, "The timely dissemination of accurate and credible information remains essential to good governance, particularly during periods of crisis and public concern." He assured that the award would serve as a catalyst for the ministry to intensify its efforts in ensuring Kano State residents have access to timely and accurate information regarding government policies, programs, and activities. He further elaborated that effective crisis communication necessitates professionalism, transparency, accuracy, and a deep understanding of public concerns, pledging the ministry's continued role in bridging the communication gap between the government and the populace.
