Kano completes 867 of 1,557 projects, says commissioner

The Kano State Government has completed 867 of the 1,557 projects undertaken since the inception of Governor Abba Yusuf's administration, according to Nura Maaji, Commissioner for Public Procurement, Projects Monitoring and Evaluation. This completion rate stands at 55.68 percent of the total classified projects, with an additional 42 percent currently ongoing.

The projects boast a cumulative contract value of N996.29 billion. Of this, N695.20 billion was approved through Notices of No Objection, and N444.75 billion in payment certificates has been vetted by the ministry. The scope of these projects is extensive, covering urban infrastructure, rural development, mass housing, roads, bridges, healthcare, and education across the state.

Analysis of the project distribution shows that the eight metropolitan Local Government Areas account for 598 projects valued at N299.36 billion, representing 30.01 percent of the total contract value. The 36 rural LGAs host 653 projects totaling N287.90 billion, or 28.90 percent. Cross-cutting projects affecting multiple LGAs are valued at N159.50 billion, while statewide initiatives amount to N249.54 billion.

Key projects highlighted include a N113.19 billion mass housing scheme at Rijiyar Gwangwan, the N24.77 billion Katsina Road expansion, and the N21.90 billion Modern Cities infrastructure program. Other significant undertakings are the N27.74 billion Madobi-Yako-Kafin Maiyaki-Kiru Road intervention and the N22 billion Rural Model City Project. However, the Dawakin Kudu Mass Housing project and the Rural Model City Housing project are among high-value initiatives still undergoing due process procedures. The ministry continues to monitor implementation and address bottlenecks to ensure value for money.
