Kano launches N27.8bn ICT, CBT project to take digital exams to grassroots

Kano State is embarking on a significant digital transformation initiative, awarding contracts totaling ₦27.8 billion to establish Information and Communication Technology (ICT) and Computer-Based Test (CBT) centers across all 44 of its local government areas. The project aims to bring digital learning opportunities and technology skills directly to the grassroots level.

Alhaji Mohammed Tajo-Othman, the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, announced the contracts, emphasizing that the initiative is a "historic milestone" for Kano State. He stated that the centers will provide access to digital opportunities and prepare the youth for the future. Each center will be equipped with high-capacity internet, 300 computers, and multiple power sources, including national grid, solar, and generators.

This historic achievement would not have been possible without the vision and foresight of Gov. Abba Kabir-Yusuf.

This project is reportedly the first of its kind in Nigeria, with an expected completion time of 16 to 18 weeks. It is anticipated to generate jobs and support examination bodies like JAMB, WAEC, and NECO, while also offering digital skills training. Several construction companies have been awarded contracts, with Vivid R&D Partnership Limited serving as the project consultant for supervision and quality assurance. The contractors have pledged to meet required standards within the timeframe, and regular site inspections will ensure quality delivery.
