Kaohsiung establishes international education center to foster cross-school learning

The city of Kaohsiung has officially launched its International Education Center, a new initiative designed to create a robust platform for cross-school international learning. Spearheaded by the Kaohsiung City Education Bureau, the center aims to consolidate resources for international education, bilingual instruction, and global exchanges.

Led by Education Bureau Director Wu Li-sen and attended by various school principals, the unveiling ceremony highlighted the center's mission to link schools, educators, curricula, and international collaborators. This network is intended to empower Kaohsiung's students to engage with the global community, starting from their school environments and extending worldwide.

Kaohsiung has a strong track record in promoting international education, boasting 322 international sister school partnerships. The city has particularly focused on expanding its network with European, American, Australian, and New Zealand institutions, achieving a goal where every high school now has a sister school. This year, the city has allocated NT$11.46 million to support overseas exchange programs, moving beyond online interactions to facilitate face-to-face international learning experiences.

Director Wu Li-sen emphasized that international education is about more than just travel; it's about cultivating the skills and open-mindedness necessary to navigate the world. The International Education Center will serve as a vital bridge, bringing global perspectives into classrooms and sharing Kaohsiung's story internationally, thereby deepening and broadening the city's global educational reach.

The center's establishment signifies Kaohsiung's commitment to preparing its students for an increasingly interconnected world. By fostering these international connections and providing diverse learning opportunities, the city aims to equip its youth with the competencies and global awareness needed to thrive in the future.
