Kaohsiung Launches Career Activities to Aid Young Job Seekers Amid High Unemployment

To address the challenges faced by young job seekers during the peak graduation season, the Kaohsiung City Labor Affairs Bureau is rolling out a comprehensive series of 23 career development activities. These events aim to assist an estimated 390 participants in smoothly transitioning into the professional world. The bureau highlighted that youth unemployment rates are typically three to four times higher than the general unemployment rate, primarily attributed to difficulties faced by first-time job seekers in finding suitable positions and adapting to workplace environments. The initiative, titled "Workplace Journey," seeks to bridge this gap by leveraging resources from industry, government, and academia to create a platform for career exploration and employment preparation. Activities will encompass in-class campus presentations, skill-enhancement courses, and guided tours of popular workplaces. One such visit took participants to Taiwan International Shipbuilding Corporation, the nation's largest shipyard. Attendees, including engineering students, expressed awe at the scale of the "national-level enterprise" and its advanced shipbuilding industry, noting the stability offered by state-affiliated companies as an attractive prospect for career advancement or transition. Other participating companies represent diverse sectors such as cold chain logistics, immersive theater, retail operations, traditional industry transformation, electronics manufacturing, and cultural and creative industries, all offering job opportunities and broadening participants' career horizons. The program's four core modules will cover AI in job searching, resume and interview techniques, labor rights and legal knowledge, and building resilience and adaptability in the workplace, equipping young individuals with essential skills and insights into industry trends.
