Kaohsiung motorcyclist injured after swerving to avoid dog; animal flees scene

A motorcyclist in Kaohsiung's Xiaogang District sustained multiple abrasions after a sudden encounter with a stray dog on Tuesday night. The 52-year-old rider, identified by the surname Chao, was traveling on Yanhai Second Road when a black dog reportedly darted out in front of him.

In an attempt to avoid hitting the animal, Chao lost control of his motorcycle and fell. The dog also appeared to have been struck during the incident and fled the scene with apparent injuries. Chao was subsequently taken to Xiaogang Hospital for treatment.

Details of the accident emerged after a dashcam video was posted on the social media platform Threads. The post described how the rider was "knocked down by a small dog" and that an ambulance had been called. The user also mentioned that the dog, after being hit, ran off "dragging its lower body" and requested assistance in locating it for rescue via the hotline 1959.

Netizens also used the post to warn other drivers about the presence of numerous stray dogs along this particular road, urging them to slow down and exercise caution for their safety. Xiaogang police confirmed they were notified of the traffic accident around 7:38 PM and are currently working to determine the exact cause.
