Kaohsiung Public Housing Draw Attracts 1,109 Applications, With Odds of About 4%

Kaohsiung’s public housing demand continues to surge. The Kaixuan Qingshu project received 1,109 applications for just 43 replacement rental units before applications closed on Sept. 1, producing estimated odds of about 4%.

The Kaohsiung Housing and Urban Regeneration Center said 722 applications came from general households and 387 from care-category households. The project is near Taiwan Railways’ Minzu Station, a light-rail line and the greenway built along the underground railway corridor.

The housing uses a rent system based on income levels. The city plans to hold a public drawing on Nov. 4, followed by apartment viewings and unit selection in November. Contracts are expected to be completed in December, with handovers and move-ins beginning Dec. 21.

Kaohsiung’s Urban Development Bureau said the city’s public housing stock has grown from 722 units in 2020 to 23,055 units today under Mayor Chen Chi-mai, including 22,333 units added during his tenure. The center will also create a waiting list after eligibility checks, allowing vacant units to be filled in order when tenants leave.
