Kaohsiung's Xin Tai 17 highway project triggers traffic diversions in Zuoying from June 1

Traffic flow at a key intersection in Kaohsiung's Zuoying District will be rerouted starting June 1 to facilitate construction of the new Provincial Highway 17 (Xin Tai 17) southern section. The intersection of Zhongzheng Road and Bisheng Road, along with Zuoying Major Road, will undergo permanent physical lane separation construction.

The Kaohsiung Public Works Bureau's New Construction Office announced the traffic diversion measures, urging motorists to follow the new routes. This phase of the Xin Tai 17 project aims to integrate permanent traffic patterns, allowing drivers to adapt to the future road layout. This approach is intended to minimize disruption and avoid the need for further adjustments later.

The north-south separation mechanism is precisely the formal driving route after the entire Xin Tai 17 line is open to traffic.

The southern section of Xin Tai 17 is progressing rapidly, with the first phase (Deming Road to Zhonghai Road) slated for completion and opening in October. The entire line, extending to the Zuoying South Gate roundabout, is targeted for full completion by December. The current diversion involves separating northbound and southbound traffic, with Zuoying Major Road maintaining one northbound lane for single-direction travel. Southbound traffic will be directed to a newly constructed turning lane onto Zhongzheng Road before merging back onto Zuoying Major Road.

Officials emphasize that this north-south traffic separation mirrors the final configuration of the completed Xin Tai 17. They anticipate this will effectively disperse traffic, reduce congestion, and enhance overall road service efficiency. Motorists are advised to reduce speed and follow all posted signs and traffic controller instructions for safety during the construction period.
