Kaohsiung to Build Direct Link Between TRA and MRT Fengshan Stations

Kaohsiung City is set to improve transit connectivity by creating a direct pedestrian route between the Taiwan Railways Administration (TRA) Fengshan Station and the Kaohsiung MRT Orange Line Fengshan Station. Currently, passengers must navigate busy roads to transfer between the two stations, a journey described as inconvenient and unfriendly to pedestrians.

The city government will develop a 0.35-hectare green space on the south side of Caojin Road, spanning 280 meters from Caojin Road to Heping Road. This area, currently a sloping green belt with a height difference of 2 meters, will be transformed into a pedestrian walkway, complete with two sets of stairs and an accessible ramp. The plan also includes a waterfront plaza and improved landscape lighting for nighttime safety.

This development requires coordination between city government land and Taiwan Sugar Corporation (TSC) land. The city government has reached an agreement with TSC to terminate existing leases and secure the land for the project. TSC's Kaohsiung branch confirmed that the land will be handed over to the city government in October for development. The city's Parks Department will lease the land from TSC, while the Land Administration Bureau will handle the engineering design.

Construction is scheduled to commence in October, with the goal of completing the direct transfer line by the end of the year. This project aims to enhance the transfer experience for the approximately 11,000 daily passengers who use Fengshan Station. The revitalized green space will also feature the planting of nearly 30 native Taiwanese bead trees and other native species, connecting to the Cao Gong Canal waterfront. The Water Resources Bureau is also planning a separate waterfront revitalization project for the Cao Gong Canal next year, further enhancing the area as a green corridor.
