Kapčiamiestis area residents warned: Special sounds will be emitted on Thursday

Residents in the vicinity of Kapčiamiestis, Lithuania, have been alerted to upcoming sound measurements at the local military training ground. On Thursday, special sound impulses will be used to assess sound propagation and potential noise levels in surrounding areas, according to the Ministry of National Defence.

The measurements are a crucial part of planning the future infrastructure of the training ground. The data gathered will be used to design and implement noise reduction measures, such as protective barriers, to ensure that the facility's operations comply with environmental requirements and permissible noise standards. This initiative aims to minimize the impact of military activities on nearby communities.

In parallel, details regarding compensation for land and property acquisition for the polygon have been released. Under a special law, owners of residential buildings within the polygon area are offered compensation equivalent to 45 minimum monthly salaries (approximately 51,885 Euros). For forest and land plots, and commercial buildings, the compensation is set at 5 minimum monthly salaries (around 5,765 Euros).

Owners of properties within the military training area also have the option to retain their buildings or request to sell them to the state within 120 months. The state would then compensate them based on the restored or comparable value, plus an additional 22 minimum monthly salaries (approximately 25,366 Euros) to offset inconvenience and assist in acquiring equivalent property. Similar compensation terms, including the additional 22 minimum monthly salaries, apply to owners of homesteads located between the polygon and the border zone.
