Kaptai Lake fishing ban extended by 10 days for fish breeding

The fishing ban in Kaptai Lake, Bangladesh, has been extended by an additional 10 days, pushing the end date to August 10. This measure is in place to safeguard the breeding and growth of fish, thereby preserving the lake's ecological equilibrium.

The decision was finalized during a meeting on fishing and fish marketing held at the Rangamati Deputy Commissioner's office. Foyez Al Karim, manager of the Bangladesh Fisheries Development Corporation (BFDC) in Rangamati, explained that the fish have not yet reached sufficient size for harvesting.

The ban, which commenced on April 25, was originally set to conclude on July 31. With the extension, fishing activities will recommence after midnight on August 10. The subsequent day, August 11, will see the resumption of fish landing and marketing operations. The primary objective of the ban is to facilitate the natural reproduction and healthy development of carp within the lake.
