Karachi receives second day of monsoon rain with light to moderate showers

Karachi received light to moderate rainfall accompanied by strong winds on Saturday evening, marking the second day of monsoon showers in the city. Various areas, including Scheme 33, Gulshan-i-Maymar, Hassan Square, Gulistan-i-Jauhar, and the airport vicinity, reported rain, while drizzle was observed in Saddar and Sea View.

In response to the ongoing monsoon spell, the provincial chief secretary has directed authorities to activate the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) and district control rooms. Daily situation reports are to be submitted throughout the monsoon season for continuous monitoring. Contingency plans are being emphasized, focusing on identifying relief camp sites and ensuring the availability of essential resources like rescue boats, dewatering pumps, and medical supplies.

The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has forecast moderate to isolated heavy rainfall in several districts, including Tharparkar, Umerkot, and Hyderabad, until July 27. Light to moderate rain is also expected in other districts, while Karachi may experience mostly cloudy weather with chances of light rain and drizzle.

Earlier in the week, the Sindh Chief Minister had placed district administrations on high alert, urging all relevant departments to prepare for potential emergencies. Precautionary measures include ensuring the preparedness of emergency response teams, maintaining drainage systems, and taking necessary steps to protect lives and property.
