Karnataka Techie Living in Australia Missing After Nepal Floods

A 45-year-old software engineer from Karnataka, who has resided in Australia for the past decade, is among the many individuals reported missing following devastating flash floods in Nepal. Rakesh Nayak was part of a package tour organized by the Isha Foundation to Mansarovar.

Nayak was last known to be near the Nepal-China border. According to his father, Shivaprasad, Nayak arrived at an immigration office near the border around 9:10 PM on August 26. Approximately 20 minutes later, flash floods swept through the area. Shivaprasad stated that his son was inside the office when the floods hit, and there has been no communication since.

The family initially received assurances that Nayak and others were safe, but subsequent attempts to contact him have been unsuccessful. Shivaprasad has been in touch with the Indian Embassy and other officials, seeking information about his son's whereabouts. An IFS officer has reportedly contacted officials at the China border, and the Embassy is actively involved in the search efforts.

Nayak is one of at least 13 individuals from Karnataka reported stranded in Nepal and the Tibet Autonomous Region. The situation remains critical as Nepal and China have warned of further flooding risks, complicating rescue operations for over 1,400 people missing after a combination of floods and landslides swept away villages along the remote Himalayan border.
