Kaspersky Reveals New Online Gambling Promotion Tactics on Social Media

Cybersecurity firm Kaspersky has identified a significant shift in how online gambling promotions are disseminated, moving away from traditional websites and digital ads towards the use of fake social media accounts and automated systems.

Defi Nofitra, Country Manager for Kaspersky Indonesia, noted that promotions now frequently appear as spam comments on viral posts, within high-interaction social media accounts, private messages, temporary links, and URL shorteners. "We are seeing a clear shift from static websites and banner ads towards highly adaptive and automated distribution methods," Defi stated in a written release on Thursday (July 16, 2026).

Previously, online gambling promotions were relatively easy to spot due to their dedicated websites or digital advertisements. However, the current promotional content is often disguised as ordinary user interactions, making suppression and content moderation efforts considerably more difficult. Kaspersky identifies the use of bots, which operate automatically, as a key factor driving the massive scale of online gambling promotions.

These bots can publish thousands of comments rapidly, create new accounts after old ones are blocked, and alter keywords and language styles to evade automated detection systems. This evolution in promotional tactics presents a growing challenge for cybersecurity firms and social media platforms aiming to combat illicit online activities.
