Kast confirms attendance at presidential inauguration in Lima

Chilean President Gabriel Boric has confirmed his attendance at the upcoming presidential inauguration in Lima, following a video call with Peru's President-elect Keiko Fujimori. The leaders exchanged views on migration policies and the necessity of enhancing coordination to combat transnational organized crime.

During the call, which also included Chilean Foreign Minister Francisco Pérez Mackenna, Boric and Fujimori reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening the friendship between Chile and Peru. They emphasized deepening bilateral cooperation and promoting commercial exchange.

The leaders also agreed on the importance of revitalizing the Pacific Alliance, an integration mechanism for economic and trade development with a focus on Asia-Pacific markets. Discussions also covered challenges related to migration and the need for regional coordination against organized crime, drug trafficking, and other threats affecting both nations.

Boric has previously proposed a humanitarian corridor for irregular migrants, supported by neighboring countries, as a potential solution to the migration and security crisis. However, the Peruvian government has expressed reservations about the proposal due to security risks and concerns about ensuring the migrants' transit and settlement.
