Kaunas Airport opens new multi-story car park with runway views

Kaunas Airport has unveiled a significant new infrastructure project: a multi-story car park designed to accommodate over 900 vehicles. This expansion aims to address growing passenger numbers and enhance convenience for travelers using the Lithuanian airport.

The modern facility boasts 912 parking spaces, including 96 designated for people with individual needs. Additionally, it features 10 charging stations for electric vehicles, with plans to install 10 more in the future. The addition of this car park increases the total parking capacity at the airport to 2,445 spaces, a substantial rise of approximately 60 percent.

A unique feature of the new car park is the panoramic view of the aircraft takeoff and landing strip available from its upper level. This offers passengers, their greeters, and aviation enthusiasts a novel vantage point to observe aircraft movements, marking a first for Kaunas Airport's infrastructure.

This development coincides with a reported increase in passenger traffic at Kaunas Airport. For the first seven months of the year, the airport served 974,000 passengers, a nearly 6 percent increase compared to the same period last year. Currently, 26 flight destinations are offered from Kaunas.

The investment in the new car park amounted to 10 million Euros. Lithuanian Airports, the operator, partnered with construction company KRS and parking operator Stova, which manages the "Unipark" brand. The agreement with Stova is for a seven-year term. The car park utilizes a digitized license plate recognition system and offers convenient payment options through self-service kiosks, a mobile app, or advance online reservations.
