Kaunas District Opposition Raises Alarm Over Closed Meeting and Treatment of Journalists

Kaunas District’s opposition says two events have raised concerns about openness at the municipality: a closed discussion involving the prime minister’s spouse and a response to journalists who came to the building.

The public could not watch or listen to a meeting between the mayor and council members about the employment circumstances of the prime minister’s spouse and other people linked to the Social Democrats. The opposition is preparing to appeal to the government representative over the decision.

Opposition representatives are also concerned that security staff and the head of the municipality’s Public Order Department were called on Thursday when a camera operator and a reporter arrived at the municipal offices.
