Kazım Koyuncu's Life Story to Hit the Big Screen in 'The Unfinished' Film

The life story of Kazım Koyuncu, the influential Black Sea musician known for his music, struggles, and political stance, is being brought to the big screen in the highly anticipated film "Kazım Koyuncu: Yarım Kalan" (The Unfinished). The production boasts a large scale and an international technical team, positioning it as one of the most eagerly awaited Turkish films of the upcoming season.

Directed by award-winning filmmaker Özcan Alper, the screenplay was penned by Alper himself, alongside Murat Uyurkulak and Erman Bostan. The cinematography is handled by Joerg Gruber, a notable figure in European cinema, ensuring an international standard of technical quality. To achieve a realistic portrayal of Koyuncu, actor Cem Yiğit Üzümoğlu is undergoing a significant physical transformation. World-renowned makeup artist Jekaterina Oertel, known for her work on Hollywood productions like "Run Lola Run" and "John Wick: Chapter 4," has been brought on board to create special prosthetic makeup and character design for Üzümoğlu.

The film's cast is a major highlight, featuring prominent names in Turkish cinema. Esteemed comedian and actor Cem Yılmaz will play Kazım Koyuncu's father, Cavit. Ayça Bingöl takes on the role of Koyuncu's mother, Hüsniye, while Şifanur Gül portrays Gönül, a significant figure in his life. Bige Önal plays Türkan, and Aslıhan Kapansahin is cast as Ceren. The ensemble also includes emerging talents such as Baran Bölükbaşı, İlker Sami Kılıç, and Onur Durmaz.

"Kazım Koyuncu: Yarım Kalan" aims to be more than just a musical biopic. It intends to narrate Koyuncu's journey from childhood, exploring his family life, friendships, unwavering political convictions, profound connection with nature, the cultural memory of the Black Sea region, and his lasting impact on modern Turkey, all conveyed through the universal language of cinema. Filming is set to commence in August in Istanbul and various locations across the Eastern Black Sea region. The film is produced by Soner Alper and Deniz Tosun, with Aytun Aktan Bahçeci and Ali Rıza Çelik serving as co-producers. The first trailer is expected in the coming months, and the film is scheduled for release on January 1, 2027.
