Kazakh President Tokayev meets EU leaders in Brussels, engages with diaspora

Kazakhstan's President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev is in Brussels for a series of high-level engagements aimed at bolstering ties with the European Union. During his visit on June 22, Tokayev held an informal meeting with European Council President António Costa.

The meeting between the two leaders is a prelude to formal talks scheduled at the European Council headquarters. These discussions are expected to focus on enhancing Kazakhstan-EU cooperation, with several bilateral documents anticipated to be signed. The agenda includes strengthening economic, political, and security partnerships between Kazakhstan and the bloc.

President Tokayev also took the opportunity to connect with members of the Kazakh community residing, studying, and working in Belgium. He congratulated them on the adoption of Kazakhstan's new Constitution, which is set to take effect on July 1. Tokayev highlighted that the new constitution prioritizes education, science, and innovation as key national strategies.

During his address to the students and professionals, Tokayev encouraged them to pursue foreign language proficiency and actively contribute to Kazakhstan's ongoing development. The meeting with the diaspora provided a platform for them to share their academic and professional accomplishments, reinforcing the strong connections between Kazakhstan and its citizens abroad.
