Kazakhstan Foreign Minister Discusses CPC Attacks with U.S. Secretary of State

Kazakhstan's Foreign Minister met with U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken to advance bilateral relations and prepare for President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev's upcoming visit to the United States for the G20 summit. The discussions covered key issues on their enhanced strategic partnership agenda.

A significant focus of the meeting was the situation surrounding the Caspian Pipeline Consortium (CPC). This discussion followed recent drone attacks targeting tankers in the CPC's water area. One vessel was preparing to load Kazakhstani oil, while another was actively being loaded at the marine terminal when the attacks occurred.

Kazakhstan's Foreign Ministry strongly condemned the drone attacks, labeling them an "unacceptable infringement on the country’s economic interests." The ministry issued a demand for an immediate cessation of attacks on vessels and infrastructure crucial for exporting Kazakhstani oil. Furthermore, the ministry stated that Kazakhstan is currently assessing the full extent of the damage caused by the incidents. The country reserves its right to utilize mechanisms provided under international law to protect its interests, including pursuing claims for compensation.
