Kazakhstan prosecutes 94 for vandalism this year, reminding public of penalties

Kazakhstan is cracking down on vandalism, with 94 individuals facing penalties in the capital this year alone. The punishments range from administrative arrests to substantial fines, with the total amount collected exceeding 5 million tenge. Prosecutors have highlighted several instances to underscore the consequences.

Since the beginning of the year, 94 people in the capital have been punished for the intentional destruction or damage of property.

One Astana resident received a 10-day administrative arrest for breaking a police station's entrance door glass while intoxicated, causing 90,000 tenge in damage. In another case, a 38-year-old man was sentenced to 15 days arrest for tearing down and discarding signs from the Sheikh Kunta Haji Mosque. A younger offender, a 20-year-old, was fined approximately 216,250 tenge for intentionally damaging a boom barrier.

The Prosecutor's Office is actively reminding the public that intentional property destruction carries administrative penalties. Under Article 147-1 of the Code of Administrative Offenses, offenders can face up to 30 days of administrative arrest or a fine of up to 60 MRP, which amounts to roughly 259,500 tenge. This campaign aims to deter further acts of vandalism by clearly communicating the legal repercussions.
