Kazakhstan Purchases Gardasil 9 Vaccine Against Cancer-Causing Virus

Kazakhstan has acquired 249,952 doses of the American-made Gardasil 9 vaccine, a significant step in its ongoing campaign against the human papillomavirus (HPV). The vaccine, which protects against nine high-risk HPV types responsible for approximately 90% of cervical cancer cases, is slated for distribution to protect the population.

The first batch, 155,589 doses, arrived in Kazakhstan in June 2026. In accordance with schedules approved by health departments, 92,959 doses have already been shipped to the regions. Delivery of the remaining part of the first batch is planned for August.

Gardasil 4, a quadrivalent vaccine protecting against four HPV types, was initially offered to girls aged 11 as routine vaccination and to those aged 12-13 for catch-up immunization. Since May 2026, the age range for catch-up immunization expanded to include girls up to 17 years old. As of early July 2026, 482,000 HPV vaccinations had been administered nationwide.

The introduction of Gardasil 9 will commence once the existing stock of Gardasil 4, currently at 126,000 doses, is fully utilized. This phased approach ensures the efficient use of purchased vaccines and a smooth transition to the more comprehensive protection offered by the nine-valent vaccine.
