Kazakhstan to begin autumn with frost, storms and rising daytime temperatures

Calendar autumn will arrive in Kazakhstan with frost in the north but summer-like warmth in the west and south.

On September 1-2, a large northern anticyclone will bring mainly dry, lightly cloudy conditions to much of the country. In the northwest, north, east and central regions, nighttime temperatures will fall to between 0°C and 5°C, with frost reaching -3°C in some areas. Ground temperatures in parts of the northwest may drop to -1°C.

The colder northern pattern will not mean calm weather everywhere. Rain and sleet are forecast at night in northern, eastern and central Kazakhstan, followed by rain and thunderstorms during the day. Mountainous parts of Almaty Region could receive heavy rain, thunderstorms and hail. Strong winds are expected in the north, east, south and southeast, while fog may form overnight and in the morning across parts of the northwest, north and east.

Western Kazakhstan will remain considerably warmer. Nighttime temperatures there will range from 10°C to 18°C, while daytime readings will rise from 25°C to 30°C and then reach 28°C to 33°C. Mangystau Region will be warmer still, with daytime temperatures climbing as high as 35°C.

In the south, nighttime temperatures will gradually ease to between 10°C and 15°C. Daytime temperatures will remain around 18°C to 23°C, while southern mountain areas could see nights as cool as 3°C to 8°C and daytime temperatures of 7°C to 12°C.
