Kazakhstan to Launch Astana Bus Brand, Begin Electric Bus Production in 2027

Kazakhstan is poised to significantly expand its automotive manufacturing capabilities with the upcoming launch of its "Astana" bus brand. Nurlan Smagulov, Chairman of Astana Motors, announced at a government meeting on July 21 that the company will commence serial production of these domestically branded buses in November.

This initiative represents a key step in broadening Kazakhstan's lineup of locally produced vehicles. The development of the Astana buses involved collaboration with Chinese technology partners and the integration of components from leading global manufacturers. Notably, Kazakh engineers played a crucial role in the design process, ensuring a blend of international expertise and local innovation.

Serial production will initially focus on diesel and compressed natural gas (CNG) buses, with these models rolling off the assembly line starting in November. Looking ahead, Astana Motors is also venturing into electric vehicle production. In partnership with Chinese automaker BYD, the company is developing a line of electric buses utilizing new-generation battery technology.

The production of these electric Astana-branded buses is anticipated to begin in March 2027. This move signifies Kazakhstan's commitment to advancing its automotive industry and embracing sustainable transportation solutions, marking a major milestone for the nation's manufacturing sector.
