Kebbi gov orders security review as bandit attacks surge

Governor Nasir Idris of Kebbi State has mandated an immediate review of the state's security strategies in response to a significant increase in armed bandit attacks. This decision was announced after an emergency security meeting held on Saturday, where key security commanders and government officials convened to discuss recent challenges and bolster response efforts.

We must review our existing security strategies and introduce new measures to address the resurgence of banditry in some parts of the state.

The meeting included the Brigade Commander, Commissioner of Police, Director of the State Security Service, Commandant of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Commander of the Vigilante Group, and Controllers of Customs and Immigration Services. Governor Idris expressed deep concern over the renewed activities of bandit groups, particularly the Lakurawa faction, which has been operating in Wasagu Chiefdom and parts of Argungu Emirate. He affirmed the state government's commitment to implementing stronger measures to safeguard residents and their property.

Concurrently, a high-powered government delegation, led by Deputy Governor Umar Abubakar Tafida, was sent to Wasagu Chiefdom. The delegation's mission was to express sympathy to the victims of the attacks and to conduct an on-site assessment of the security situation. The delegation included the Speaker of the Kebbi State House of Assembly, Alhaji Salisu Dangoje, the Emir of Zuru, Muhammad Sanusi Mikailu Sami Gomo III, and various commissioners and board chairmen. At the palace of the Chief of Wasagu, Alhaji Mukhtar Musa Muhammad, the deputy governor conveyed the governor's message of solidarity and reaffirmed the administration's dedication to ending the banditry plaguing the area and other affected communities.
